THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY!

What is Something to Smile About?

Something to Smile About is a Grass Roots Festival, not just a festival of music, or arts, but a festival, in its base meaning, a gathering to celebrate, to throw off your worries and just enjoy the simple things.

At Smile we have 2 stages, the main stage, split in two, enables us to have much shorter turnaround times leaving just enough time for a trip to the loo and bar between acts.
The second is the Hidden Stage, located in our top secret Hidden Space!

Something to Smile About is well known for its all in approach to line ups.  By keeping as much of the work as possible in house we are able to put a much higher percentage of your ticket money into creating astounding line ups, each year it is a challenge to out do the last.

When booking bands we try to get a good mixture of styles but also a good mixture of festival favourites and our own new finds that we think you will enjoy, ensuring each year most people walk away with a new band find and armfuls of merchandise and CD's.

Hidden Stage Line up Coming Soon!

At Something to Smile About we try to capture every essence of a festival and we believe that the workshops, stalls and traders are just as vital as the bands when it comes to making the site feel complete and welcoming.

We have worked with many of our traders since year one and always ensure there is a little of everything.  Most of our stalls are craft focussed or only stock ethically sourced products from across the world.  Some even offer extra workshops and you only have to cover basic material costs.

Last years festival boasted clay modelling, carving, henna, tie dye, wicker work, clothes, gifts, bespoke fashion wear, festival essentials, handmade jewellery, magic tricks, novelties and so much more and almost all of them will be returning in 2019!

As well as trade and craft stalls there are also several food and more importantly, drink related stalls!

We are home to our very own and very much infamous MeadEvil Bar, stocking traditional Meads and Fruit Wines from across the country as well as traditional Cider direct from Somerset, with drink prices set to that of your local rather than your usual festival bars.

Sample one of our various 'MeadTales' where the only sensible mixer for alcohol, is more alcohol!
Enter yourself into the Axe Hold competition and prove yourself a true Viking!

We also have a normal everyday bar, selling lager, ale etc ran by the site owners, plus food stalls, burgers, fries, hotdogs are common fare, normally alongside a Noodle bar or Paella stand, plus we have the fantastic Creative Intentions on site offering a gorgeous selection of vegetarian wraps and platters, plus their chillout space with teas, coffees, cake and a hookah/shish area for hose wanting to seriously chill out.  This space stays open after hours offering the perfect wind down space on a night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need to Book in Advance?
The short answer, is YES!  In the past STSA has sold out, we have no reason to believe it won’t do the same again this  year.

Why are tickets only available through your shop?
This year we are processing all orders in house, which means, we get to set our own postage and handling fees
to ensure you will not pay any more than what it will actually cost.  When we say we are independent we mean
It, and are not in any hurry to line the pockets of large companies with your hard earned money!

When will I receive my tickets?
Physical tickets for the festival, plus camping passes and vehicle passes, will all be posted out by Royal Mail the first week in May, if tickets are still on sale after this point we shall continue to post them out until the risk of them not arriving in time becomes too high, anyone purchasing them after this point will have to collect from our box office upon arrival.

Is there disabled access and facilities?
Yes, our site is completely disabled friendly, with paths throughout plus well maintained, level grass areas.
There is a disabled use only toilet and showering facilities also on site.  If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us.
If you require disabled camping space/campervan space, inform us after purchasing your tickets.

Do I need money for the workshops?
All workshops within the hidden space are completely free of charge, that includes face painting!
There will be other crafts and workshops that may charge a small amount to cover materials used.

Do you need any stewards?
There is always a need for stewards/staff so please contact us via the contact page and we will get back to you ASAP!

Can my band play?
At this stage most sets are fully booked, however we will have open mic / busking sessions going on all weekend and are always keen to hear from new bands for future festivals or for any of the numerous other events we organise.

Can I bring my own food?
Yes, we are not made of money either and so we understand that you sometimes need to cut the costs and pack the Pot Noodles and All Day Breakfasts.  We will have on site the very tasty food from Creative Intentions as well as food available from DCLT the site owners.

Can I bring alcohol to the festival?
Again, yes.  You are allowed to have your own alcohol on site, however, we will allow no glass on site, anyone seen with glass bottles will have them confiscated.  All we ask is that you help us keep the campsite and arena tidy, by using the bins provided.
We will have on site 2 bars, the MeadEvil Bar and DCLT will provide a bar for real ales, craft beers and all the usual lagers etc.

When can we arrive?
The car park and campsite will both open at 10am on Friday the 31st May.

When does it all kick off?
The arena will open on the Friday at 12pm, all stalls, food and bars will also be opening from 12pm with
the first act on stage at 2pm

When do I have to be off site?
You will be required to leave the campsite by 12 noon on Monday 6th June and the car park by 2pm.  The
campsite is all year round so if you do wish to stay you will need to book additional nights with the venue.
Please also being aware that we will be dismantling ,so not all of the site will be accessible.
